At midnight the fireworks started going off and people were shooting their guns in the air. Miles was getting pretty nervous so we let him look out the window so he could see the fireworks. This surprising calmed him down…I think he actually liked them.

Now anytime he hears a noise outside he runs to the window. Not even the curtain can stop him.

It’s Christmas Eve, Dianna is playing puzzle, I am eating frozen berries with sugar while watching SportsCenter, and Miles is laying by the fireplace as we get a knock on our door. It was a group of kids caroling. We stood and listened to them sing a couple songs, as Miles took the opportunity to sneak outside and play. They didn’t stay to long as the temperture was -15F, but it was a very nice ending to our Christmas Eve!

here comes the light

On the darkest day we got almost 4 hrs of sunlight. Me and Miles spent the day out in the trees getting wood. Dianna spent the day baking cookies, watching her shows, and taking a nap. Yes, she loves being a housewife, maybe she will be staring in next seasons Housewives of Alaska.

Tomorrow we gain 1 minute of sunlight, summer will be here before we know it!

It’s now Christmas Break and before I can start on my to do list I need to get my run. I’m pretty sure everyday since Thanksgiving we have gotten several inches of snow or blowing wind creating major drifts. I decided to run on the treadmill. Normally this isn’t an issue, but since Miles just got his semiannual bath, he was a little wet and Dianna thought he would enjoy hanging out with us in the house. As I was getting ready to run Miles thought this seemed like a good idea and wanted to join me before he took his nap on the carpet. Needless to say this wasn’t going to happen and Miles spent some time on the porch.

mmm cookies

The Bazaar went good. My class rocked the Christmas Program! Now it’s time to open presents and party! This past Halloween Dianna set the bar pretty high with her fancy monster cookies. This year instead of having Dianna make my class something I decided to step into the kitchen and make some reindeer cookies. They turned out pretty good. Dianna even said she was surprised how well they turned out. Now I just hope they taste as good as hers did.

I started this blog when I moved to Elim, so I wouldn’t have to send mass emails to my family about what I am doing way up north. That was several years ago and I never in my wildest mind thought several years later I would have over 20,000 hits from all over the world. I have also tried hard to keep the layout simple and stay away from advertisements.

For the first time I ever and I offering my followers an opportunity of a lifetime. For a limited time (until they are gone) you can purchase an Elim XC sweater for $30. These are authentic sweaters the runners will be wearing next season when they travel and warm up. If a sweater isn’t for you I have a very limited number of t-shirts ($15) these are the same shirts the runners received throughout the season. On the front it has an Eagles head and says Elim Cross Country. On the back is a quote the runners picked out “Run Run as fast as you can you can’t catch me I’m the gingerbread man. (Not quite as controversial as “If XC was any easier we would call it football”)

Hoodie sizes: Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, and XX-Large. T-shirt sizes: Medium and X-Large.

The proceeds will help buy warm up pants, provide running shoes and spikes, and help pay for air travel so we can get another race under our belt before regionals.

What goes on after Thanksgiving…Black Friday…is that today? Unlike the rest of the country our stores didn’t open early and there was no lines waiting to bust through the doors.

thanksgiving feast

Most people sit down today for a Thanksgiving meal….in Elim we have a Thanksgiving FEAST! It’s nice in the whole community comes together at the school gym and is treated to a feast. Most people bring a dish to pass since Dianna does all the cooking in our house she feared one of two things 1) I wouldn’t take anything up to pass 2) I would take up a frozen pizza. With these to thoughts in mind before she left she prepared all the ingredients for potato salad, leaving me with the daunting tasks of mixing it all together (yes, she was going to leave me directions on how to dump bowls of this and that into a large bowl and stir). Needless to say yesterday I successfully mixed everything together.

I am very thankful these days for many things, Miles on the other hand is not so thankful for the feast. He will not be getting any left overs and with the temperature hovering around -7 he knows he will be spending the afternoon outside.

it’s alive

9 months ago, I blew a piston and the back wall of engine. I have had my snowmachine sitting in my shop as I slowly worked on it. 2 days ago I was finally able to drive my machine out of my shop. I took my old engine out stripped it down, put all the pieces on a new block, put it back in, and plugged everything back in….correctly.

Here’s my machine with a new engine, but I haven’t put my clutch, air box, or my exhaust back on yet. My machine after its first night outside.

Now that I have been some what succesful with a snowmachine, I think I might move on to bigger and better things. JET engines!
